About Us

Equaphase Technologies Leads Energy Storage Into An Energy Conservation Future.

Equaphase Technologies is a leader in energy storage innovation, specializing in advanced phase change materials (PCMs) for cool energy storage. The company’s primary focus is on enhancing the efficiency of cooling systems through cutting-edge technology.

Building on leading Eutectic PCM Cool Storage Technology, Equaphase Technologies introduces new PCMs that significantly reduce chiller operation and energy consumption by up to eighty percent. This innovation extends the technology originally developed by Transphase Systems, maximizing energy efficiency and operational effectiveness.

Our History

Pioneering Eutectic PCM Cool Storage System for Energy Storage and Efficiency

Transphase Systems, established by Mr. Ames in 1982 in Huntington Beach, CA, pioneered the use of Eutectic PCM Cool Storage Technology based on Mr. Ames’ development of a 47 degree F PCM.  Between 1983 and 1995, the company installed over 90 major eutectic cool storage systems, utilizing its 47-degree F PCM. These systems collectively shifted and reduced on-peak energy demand by over 25 MW and provided over 150,000 ton-hours of cooling capacity in large commercial and industrial facilities.

Our Founder

Pioneering Eutectic PCM Cool Storage System for Energy Storage and Efficiency

Doug Ames, the founder and CEO of Equaphase Technologies and Transphase Systems, has over 15 years experience in the research development, manufacturing, engineering and deployment of eutectic PCM cool storage systems. He began his career working with Dr. Maria Telkes. Dr. Telkes has been named the “Sun Queen” for her pioneering work in the use of phase change materials (PCMs) for solar heat storage.

Mr. Ames first commercialized the use of PCMs for cool storage.  As CEO of Transphase, he was responsible for all aspects of the company’s operations, including manufacturing with in-house blow molding and mixing, filling and sealing operations, and applied system design and operations.

Recognizing the urgent need for power reduction, Mr. Ames has advanced Transphase technology by starting Equaphase Technologies.

As CEO of Transphase, Mr. Ames was EPRI’s principal investigator in developing a 41-degree F PCM. He holds 10 patents in the field of Eutectic PCM Cool Storage Systems and has recently applied for another patent, which is pending, concerning advanced PCM chemistry which increases the thermal storage capacity of PCMs. He has now invented Equaphase 16 and Equaphase 13 PCMs.

Mr. Ames is also a former business attorney in California and a Harvard graduate.
